Not what you
expect I went into buying this eight DVD box set believing that
there would be at least a few classic "Stooges" shorts. Instead, I receive
but ONE of DVD of shorts, the rest being various clips, biographies, and
rare footage of the Howard brothers. I'm all for learning a bit about our
classic comedy heritage here, but my main complaint is that the clips on
each DVD borrow greatly from each other (you'll find yourself watching one
DVD, realizing you've seen these clips on the LAST DVD!), the clips are
poorly edited together, and there are far too many annoying "Pop-up
Video"-esque factoids that are indeed informative, but get in the way of
enjoying the Stooges' comedy.
Frankly, if all you want is to laugh till your sides split watching one
of the best comedy teams in American history, I would reccommend reading a
biography. If you want to watch the Stooges, try a different box set.
Hidden
treasures... do not overlook! Goodtimes has 8 Three Stooges discs
on the market. This set collects them all in one package. There's a lot of
public domain material here. If you're looking for the boys' Columbia
shorts, only 4 films (public domain) are here. BUT, if you're looking for
a vast sampling of their entire career's work, there's a great deal of fun
footage not generally available. Such as...
- Movie trailers for their '59-'65 features and 1950's GOLD
RAIDERS - TV appearances with Steve Allen, Ed Sullivan, Frank Sinatra,
local LA TV, Ed Wynn, Danny Thomas, Martha Raye - 1965 NEW 3 STOOGES
cartoons and live-action wraparounds - '60s TV commercials and
PSAs - Clips of the Stooges from a rare 1939 Columbia one-reeler called
SCREEN SNAPSHOTS - Clips of a '73 interview with Larry at the Motion
Picture Home & Hospital - The complete 1946 feature film SWING
PARADE OF 1946 with Curly Howard - 1&1/2 hour
biography/documentary, with a nice sampling of rare footage and photos
- More!
You can buy these eight discs singly, or in two 4-packs. This 8-pack is
Goodtimes' best DVD offer, and it's worth the money! Sure, it has a little
of that Goodtimes-bargain-basement flavor, but the scope of material
presented is pure Stooge-heaven! ... Read more

Cheaply made
documentary ...This DVD is a collection of recycled stooge
interview/movie/short clips with an original narrative track. There is NO
original footage. Often, old film clips that have nothing to do with the
stooges are inserted as filler material. In fact, the actual stooge clips
they do use are repeated as many as 5 times.
Audio quality also leaves a lot to be desired. The narrator sounds as
though he's reading from inside a public restroom.
I've bought several stooge DVDs...They're ALL cheap, repetitive and
have poorly designed menus.
The only reason this DVD rates 2 stars is because it does contain some
interesting information for those who are not already up on Stooge
history. ... Read more

Only if
you've run out of other 3 stooges This DVD by Good Times Home Video
has a lot of the same material as in The Three Stooges: Kings of Laughter
by the same company. They really shouldn't have tried to cheat customers
by doing this.
It is really only for the hardcore 3 stooges fans who have seen
absolutely everything else by them. Much of it is pretty sad--only a
little bit funny--stuff with recycled routines from earlier moves/shorts.
These shorts lack the inspired craziness of some of the earlier
movies/shorts had.
Look elsewhere for your 3 stooges fix.
The Three
Stooges, Funniest Moments I am a Three Stooges fan but this version
didn't even make me snicker. It seems the funny has gone out of them. ...

4-star
shorts, but we've all seen them. Don't get me wrong, all four of
these shorts are great, but haven't they been released enough? DISORDER IN
THE COURT, MALICE IN THE PALACE, SING A SONG OF SIX PANTS, and BRIDELESS
GROOM have been released on about fifty different videos, and now on DVD.
BRIDELESS GROOM, SING A SONG, and DISORDER have been released in better
quality by Columbia once or twice, but Shemp's most famous short MALICE IN
THE PALACE is not on any Columbia Tristar collection yet. I like these
shorts, but DVD's should be better that videos and need different shorts.
After all, Columbia still hasn't released 55 of the Stooges films.
Beware
non-Columbia Stooges videos The four movies included in this set --
'Disorder In The Court', 'Malice In The Palace', 'Sing A Song Of Six
Pants' and 'Brideless Groom' -- are in the public domain, which means
anyone with recording equipment and a copy of the movie can release their
own video. Frequently, the results are of poor video/audio quality
(although the movies themselves are quite good -- 'Brideless Groom' is one
of the funniest Stooge comedies ever). Columbia has just released an
'official' Stooges DVD (with six of the films on one disc) -- hopefully
the first of many. Stick with Columbia, and avoid these cheap knock-offs.
If it seems
too good to be true... The selection of shorts is only fair, the
video quality poorand there are just two 25-minute shorts on each DVD!
Almost enough todissuade me from trying other Stooge DVD's. ... Read more
